What is Alpha Pinene?

Depending on where the double bond is on the molecule, Pinene can consist of two isomers: Alpha and Beta. The two isomers do have slightly different effects, but the aromas and flavors are similar.

Alpha Pinene, depending on its charge, is usually seen in pine trees, the negative charge typically is found in European pine, and the positive is found in North American pine.

Pinene is an alkene and highly reactive to molecular rearrangement, whether alpha or beta.

Specifically, Alpha Pinene emits an earthy, pine, and herbal odor. It’s flavor tends to be a sharp pine or a general woody taste.

You will find Alpha Pinene in some varieties of citrus sources, herbs like sage and rosemary, and in conifer trees.

Alpha Pinene is commonly found in the following strains:

  • Og Kush
  • Blue Dream
  • Jack Herer

When it comes to Beta Pinene, you’ll notice woody or piney aromas and a less-than-alpha sharp flavoring. Although these two isomers are extremely similar, they offer a unique experience.

You will find Beta Pinene in a wide variety of conifer, which is pine. It can also be naturally sourced from Heterotheca, a non coniferous camphorweed and Artemisia tridentata, a big sagebrush.

Beta Pinene is frequently found in the following strains:

  • Trainwreck
  • Bubba Kush
  • ChemDawg

Does Pinene Effect Allergies?

To date, our Pinene isolates, alpha or beta, have not been reported as affecting our customers due to allergic reactions or the like.

From what we understand there are 3 types of pine allergies. Most cases of pine allergy are the result of a pollen allergy mainly in the spring time when male trees drop pollen or a nut allergy (pine nuts like in pesto and other Mediterranean dishes). However, a percentage of the population has been shown to be specifically allergic to alpha/beta pinene. Please speak with your doctor about possible reactions or to get an allergy test done to check your own sensitivity.

Through the distillation of alpha & beta pinene, our terpene oils should have been separated from any traces of either of pine nut or pollen. As with all natural products it is difficult to say that no reaction is possible with use but it is our opinion that those with those types of pine allergy should be able to use our Alpha Pinene when diluted as suggested after consulting their doctor about the use of pine oils. As mentioned above please check with your doctor before using the product if you have any history of a pine allergy.

Why Use Alpha Pinene?

Both Pinene isomers offer beneficial effects, recreationally and for your life.

True Terpenes Alpha Pinene offers a variety of complimentary effects like energy, focus, and an uplifting peace.

On the other hand, Beta Pinene has shown positive effects on seasonal problems. You can also enjoy the terpene for its focused energy state, whether you add it to your morning tea or meal of choice.

How to use Alpha Pinene?

As we’ve mentioned before, it’s always encouraged to start with small doses over less frequent dose periods. This allows for you to judge how the terpene affects your body. True Terpenes potent terpene products offer a unique experience, and we want you to enjoy them as much as possible.

Nonetheless, you can enjoy Pinene alone, or you can add it to your favorite beverage or food. Once you discover which does works best for you, enjoy the terpene however you like!
