Terpene Flavors are enhanced blends of terpenes with the taste of the most in demand flavors. They enable you to customize the flavor and viscosity of your extracts and other natural products. These one-of-a-kind profiles are created by combining a base of terpenes with flavonoids, esters, and other flavorful phytochemicals, enabling you to add a whole new dimension of flavor to your products.
Yes. Our Terpene Flavors line was designed strictly for flavor. This line of products was developed to taste fantastic without sacrificing the True Grade™ promise.
To make a Terpene Flavor, we first start with an idea in mind of a flavor we would like to develop, a specific fruit for example. Next, we create a complementary terpene profile to act as the base for the flavor. Then, we formulate the body and top notes of the flavor and combine this with the base terpene profile to round out the blend. Finally, we homogenize the profile and sample the batch for quality.
We suggest a maximum of 10% total added terpenes in any product, this includes any combination of Pure Isolated Terpenes, Profile Blends, Terpene Flavors, and Viscosity.

Terpene Isolates are responsible for some of the most identifiable aromas and flavors in nature. Using terpene isolates in your products will enable you to create a unique flavor and aroma profile that is your very own. True Terpenes offers a wide variety of isolated terpenes so that you can craft the perfect mixture for your needs.
Terpene Isolates should be used as an additive for aroma and flavor. With Isolated terpenes it is suggested that you start with less than 1% by volume of any single terpene in a blend and work your way up until you reach your desired strength. Isolated terpenes are considered active at levels above 0.05%. As with all of our terpene products, we suggest you never add more than 10% by volume.
Isolated terpenes can be added to your products individually or as part of a custom blend. They are oils and will not mix with water-based products.
It is difficult to say what effect each terpene has on its own. In an attempt to gain a greater understanding, we have completed a meta-analysis of the research available and found mention of the qualities used as headings in the table below associated with the presence of the following terpenes and terpene combinations.
This should in no way be viewed as a definitive guide on how to use terpenes for an effect. The following table is based on studies which make suggestions and hypothesize based on various forms of data collection and experiment, many times without involving human studies.

Viscosity is the only extract modifier comprised of terpenes found naturally. The ingredients are Phytol, Beta-Caryophyllene, D-Limonene, Farnesol and Nerolidol. Viscosity Extract Modifier enables you to turn your extracts into the perfect flowing oil. It combines smoothly without separation, and will stay blended without additional additives or emulsifiers.
It does not contain PG, VG, PEG, MCT, Squalane, Squalene, Coconut oil, Triethyl Citrate, or Vitamin E Acetate
High-purity extract has a consistency similar to honey. Adding terpenes can “thin” extracts to decrease viscosity and encourage flow. However, adding too great an amount of terpenes can result in negative and unpleasant side effects, especially when the ratio of terpenes to other compounds diverges from that expressed by the plant itself.
True Terpenes partnered with Dr. Jeff Raber, Ph.D. and The Werc Shop to formulate the all-new Viscosity. The Werc Shop’s team includes Ph.D.’s and scientists with over 100 years of combined experience. Dr. Jeff Raber earned his Ph.D. in chemistry in 2002 from University of Southern California where he was a Harold and Lillian Moulton Fellow. He holds multiple patents, has published several peer-reviewed articles and is widely considered a leading expert. Viscosity is formulated to True Terpenes’ True Grade™ standards. We use the highest quality raw materials and manufacture our products in a cGMP audited and ISO-2015:9001 & FSSC 22000 certified facility.
The all-new Viscosity is comprised of ONLY terpenes found natively occurring. The original Viscosity is a great extract modifier, but over the years our customers have asked for a transparent ingredient list as well as ingredients only found naturally.
No. Viscosity uses synthetic phytol due to its greater purity and stability. In some cases, synthetics can be more stable, pure and consistent than their natural counterparts.
Viscosity has a very mild color and odor that minimally contributes to the aroma and flavor of the product in recommended solution.
We suggest that you add 1-3% by volume and never suggest you use more than 10% total added terpenes in any product, this includes any combination of Viscosity, Strain Profile Blends, Terpene Flavors, or pure isolated terpenes. Many clients use 5% strain profile and 5% Viscosity and are very happy with their results.
Whether or not Viscosity is a viable replacement for MCT, PG and VG in your extract will depend on your intended use. Viscosity is recommended to be used as a diluent to help with the liquefaction of extracts. MCT, PG and VG are used as a diluent, but more often as a carrier comprising a majority of the formulation. That would not be a recommended use for Viscosity.
Viscosity has optimal miscibility with other compounds and terpenes. Its formula is comprised of ONLY terpenes found naturally.
Research indicates that PG, VG, and PEG form toxic byproducts through pyrolysis. Studies found that heating to just 150°C yielded degradation products including carcinogenic formaldehyde, vinyl ethers, and a variety of smaller PEG oligomers. Considering the toxicity of the ethylene glycol monomer (a primary ingredient in automobile antifreeze) data describing the degradation of PEG at relatively low temperatures should raise serious concerns about the safety of the polymer, as well as PG and VG, as an additive.
MCTs are derivatives of glycerol so despite natural origins they are expected to suffer similar toxic pyrolysis. Indeed, studies on the pyrolysis of closely related food oils have indicated the generation of many different decomposition products, including the carcinogenic acrolein. While it remains unclear what risk is posed by its inclusion, the use of MCT oil as a carrier should be treated with some caution.
Viscosity should not be used to dilute strain profiles blends or pure isolates. Viscosity is a carrier-free mixture and should be diluted before use. If you mix Viscosity with isolated terpenes or strain profiles that mixture will need to be diluted before use. We never advise adding more than 10% total terpenes by weight or volume to any mixture. This includes any combination of isolated terpenes, Strain Profile Blends, Terpene Flavors, and Viscosity.
You do not have to use Viscosity. Viscosity is a tool to be used if you need to thin your oil and do not wish to add terpenes with a potent flavor. You can use isolated terpenes or strain profiles without Viscosity.
Cutting agents are additives used in higher volumes that reduce product performance in lieu of profitability. A common example of cutting agent would be adding water to alcohol to increase profit margins and shelf life.
No, Viscosity is not formulated to thicken oil, cut costs, or heavily dilute plant-based oils. It is not an adulterant.
No, the opposite actually! Viscosity is comprised of terpenes which help to thin the extract while keeping the ratio of cannabinoids to terpenes closer to what we find in nature.
Viscosity acts as a true extract modifier, not a carrier. Meaning it will dissolve into your extract and force separation of non-soluble components.
While many clients have had success using Viscosity with raw CO2, BHO, Rosin, and other unwinterized extracts, we cannot say that we recommend using Viscosity with these products because each extraction is unique and contains a varying content of lipids and waxes and other plant constituents which are not oil soluble and may separate and cloud your final product.
If you choose to use Viscosity with unwinterized extracts you may do so and find great success, however if it does not turn out as you would have hoped, we cannot offer any form of compensation as you have been informed.
Viscosity contains phytol which may cause negative effects for those with Refsum Disease. Refsum Disease is a disease that reduces the ability of the body to break down phytanic acid, a metabolite of phytol.
